RMHC Celebrates 50 Years of Impact

Served with love

Ronald McDonald House celebrates its 50th Anniversary this year.

Did you know Philadelphia is home to the first Ronald McDonald House opening on October 15th, 1974, setting the tone for all of the other facilities to come? In collaboration with co-founder Dr. Audrey Evans, Fred Hill, former Philadelphia Eagles tight end, brought his vision of a place for support of families inspired by his daughter’s battle with Leukemia.

RMHC has been helping families in need with travel, supplies, and a community of support for families with sick children. What began as a single house in the city has now grown into a global network of over 385 Ronald McDonald Houses, operating in more than 60 countries. Each house embodies the same sense of compassion and support it was created in. The programs support families who travel from various parts of the country for their children to receive medical attention. It provides a safe place to stay and relief from some of the financial and emotional burdens of enduring their child’s medical crisis.

Each year RMHC provides at least 2.7 million overnight stays for families in need. Along with the Houses, RMHC offers Family Room Programs and Care Mobile Programs. MarketPlace PHL is proud to support all of the efforts and commitment to transformative healthcare experiences that RMHC represents.

RMHC hosts their annual Served with Love program at the center city Philadelphia location. Volunteer groups donate and participate in an evening of prepping and serving the families staying at RMHC while their children receive care. This year from October 21st – October 25th various PHL Food & Shops merchants donate and volunteer their time to support the cause. These companies include Airport Dining, Chickie’s & Pete’s, La Colombe, Jack Duggan’s, and MarketPlace PHL in partnership with OTG.
